Citation style

The citation style controls how your citations and your list of references look like. Zotero contains several thousand ready citation styles. Established styles such as Harvard, APA, MLA and Oxford are of course among these. Many journals' own or preferred styles are also fully entered.

Which citation style should I use?
Ask your supervisor which citation style is used in your subject. Well-established styles are commonly used; either fully or with slight variations. If the style your subject uses is not fully matched by an existing style, it is possible to create your own style.

But if I get to choose myself?
Harvard and APA are common citation styles where the source reference appears in the running text (so-called bracket style or author-year style). The Oxford style is a common footnote style. The Vancouver style is suitable for those who need a style with endnotes. Some styles, e.g. The Chicago style, is available in different versions and thus suitable for both source references in the running text and footnotes (choose the right version!).
