E-books

Terms of use for e-materials

The use of Åbo Akademi University Library's e-resources (e-articles, e-books, databases, etc.) is regulated by agreements that the library has entered into with the publishers and suppliers of the e-resources. Most of the agreements have been entered into on behalf of the library by the national FinELib consortium, and the respective publisher/supplier's terms of use can be read on  the FinELib website .

The e-resources can be used by Åbo Akademi University students and staff as well as external customers who use the library's public customer computers or are given access to Åbo Akademi University's wireless guest network.

To use the library's e-resources, you must log in via the library's Alma-Finna catalogue, abo.finna.fi. If you are not on the ÅA network, the program will ask you to log in with your ÅA username and password. If you are on the ÅA network, you will have access to the e-resources immediately. To read the e-books in Biblio, log in with your library card number and library card PIN.

NOTE:  If you are studying at Novia, you should use  Novias Alma .

Alma-Finna also contains e-resources that are freely available to use. This means that you do not need to be logged in with your ÅA username to access them.

What you are allowed to do

  • save and print reasonable amounts of an e-resource for personal use, typically e.g. 5-30% of an e-book. Please note that some e-books cannot be saved or printed, but can only be borrowed/read online.
  • Åbo Akademi University students and staff may submit a small number of e-articles to third parties for the purpose of conducting research.
  • link to e-resources.
  • If necessary, upload individual e-articles to closed learning platforms (e.g. course materials in Moodle) at Åbo Akademi University, but always link first as the right to save/upload e-articles may be limited.
  • browse the e-resources and perform information searches

What you must not do

  • use e-materials for commercial purposes.
  • distribute, sell or modify the e-resources and make adaptations.
  • use automatic software that systematically downloads the e-resources
  • use copyrighted publications and other materials as input for AI tools
