In some cases, your supervisor may advise you to write a data management plan (DMP). The plan is a document about how you will manage your data during the course of your work, from collection to possible opening of the data after you have finished. Writing a DMP helps you avoid problems in advance. A DMP is always written before data collection and can be used throughout the work. If you are writing your thesis as part of a larger research project, there is often already a DMP for the project, and you can ask to see it. Project managers need to make sure that all project members know how the data/material will be handled.
A DMP focuses solely on the data management and be concise and concrete. You should not write anything about theory and method in it, but the DMP can in turn help you when you write the theory and method chapters of your study. Do not write anything in your DMP that you do not understand yourself, i.e. do not copy sentences that sound good from other plans.
This DMP template is adapted for students at Åbo Akademi University. Use the research data guide for support when filling out the data management plan.
Open and edit the template in the Microsoft Word app, not in the browser.
You can check boxes and write on the lines. Sample texts disappear as you type.
Remember to update your DMP when necessary!
